Hardy roses do very well in the Barracks garden in spite of the short season. The colours are glorious. The back garden has deliciously fragrant rugosa roses and a few other varieties. They bloom from late June into August and are glorious in the number of blooms and rich colours. Morden roses have fared well here.

The perennial garden has a variety of roses zoned 3 and less. They are only five years old and have handled the Canmore winters. We take care to build a thick layer of mulch and/or peat moss in late September to allow extra protection for the roots.
